The official AKC Breed Standard documents the optimum appearance, structure, and temperament of the Berger Picard. Our American standard was developed through close consultation with the French Berger Picard Club and emulates their standard.
Key Points in the Standard
- medium-sized,
- sturdily built & well-muscled without being bulky,
- slightly longer than tall,
- distinctive erect natural ears
- wiry coat of moderate length,
- tail reaching to the hock and ending in a J-hook.
- Males, 23-½ to 25-½ inches, females 21-½ to 23-½ inches at the highest point of the withers. There is a 1 inch margin above or below before it is considered a fault.
- Body length should be about 10% more than height.
